Does your MP3 player contain slower tempo songs, or songs that just don’t seem to keep you motivated? Then, it may be time to revamp the playlist that you center your workouts around. Recent studies have continued to show the important role of music in the intensity of workouts. In one study, highlighted by the New York Times Well blog, male college students pedaled faster, elevated their heart rate levels and liked the music more if the music they were listening to was upbeat instead of slow. With dreary, grey weather around the corner, now is the time more than ever to switch your music selection and get motivated to stay fit.
Updating your fitness playlist every couple of months helps change things up and make your workouts a little less monotone. Check out the following tips to jazz up your workout soundtrack and keep you in the groove of being fit:
1. Think old and new. Don’t hold out on old songs you’ve forgotten about, or exclude new songs because you might think they just aren’t your style. Do some research on fitness websites, like dailyspark.com, that offer plenty of ideas on songs that are ideal for your revitalized workout playlist.
2. Consider the type of your workout program. If you are amerced in the serenity of a Pilate’s class, then you probably do not want AC/DC rocking out through your headphones.  Gear each playlist to the different type of exercise in your workout. Try to use more peaceful (but upbeat) melodies for your Pilate’s classes, but try to turn it up a bit for your strenuous workouts on the treadmill or when you’re giving the punching bag all you’ve got.
3. Include songs that pump your energy level into high gear. By adding songs that promote energy, you’ll be surprised to find that you will work harder and at a faster pace helping you melt away even more calories.
By following these easy steps, you will revitalize your playlist helping you and your workouts to stay motivated and in gear.
